Appvion adds coatings to paper products. The company is headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin with distribution centers in Wisconsin, Ohio, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Georgie and California. On September 18, 2017, Appvion submitted a WARN notification with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

According to that notification, Appvion Inc. will be permanently terminating its operations at its distribution center and its warehouse in Appleton, Wisconsin. The distribution center is located a 115 Kensington Drive. The Basestock Warehouse is located at 3000 Warehouse Road.

The work at the facilities will soon be subcontracted to another company and will no longer be handled by Appvion employees. Therefore, Appvion believes that the closures will lead to the layoff of more than 60 workers. Some of the impacted employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Local Union 2-0469. Due to the bumping rights, Appvion admits it is impossible to know for certain which employees will be affected.

The layoffs will also impact 4 salaried employees. Operations at the company’s warehouse will be terminated on October 15, 2017. The distribution center will stop operations on November 5, 2017. While the change will ultimately impact 62 workers, Appvion anticipates a net loss of just 27 jobs, since many of the employees could be transitioned into less senior positions, due to their union bumping rights.
