Citizens Bank and the Military Warriors Support Foundation strongly believe in giving back to the nation’s veterans. Since they share this common goal, a collaboration between the two entities seems like a no brainer. On May the 13th, Citizens Bank confirmed they had once again agreed to partner with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to give back to Pittsburgh’s military veterans. The two groups have provided one combat-wounded veteran with a newly renovated, mortgage-free house in the city of Pittsburgh. The Penn Hills house was recently renovated by Citizens Bank colleagues.
The donation of the property is a small part of Citizens Bank’s goal to provide shelter to those in need within the local community. The gift was presented to now retired United States Army Staff Sergeant Shawn Jones to honor his service to the country as a combat engineer. Jones was injured during his tour of Afghanistan. Over the course of his military career, Jones has received several awards for his service, including a Combat Action Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and more.
At the ceremony, Citizens Bank colleagues lined the street, while company representatives alongside those with the Military Warriors Support Foundation presented Shawn the keys to his new home. The donation is expected to provide shelter to two military veterans, as Shawn’s current roommate will join him at the new property. Citizens Bank colleagues also collaborated with Giant Eagle to expand the donation.
Citizens Bank contributed brand-new appliances to the property, as well as a new shed with a complementary set of gardening tools. Giant Eagle threw in a refrigerator overflowing with food and a 500 dollar gift card for groceries. A full year of free car washes at the company’s GetGo stations was also donated to the military veteran. Citizens Bank is well known for giving back to the local communities it serves through its Citizens Help Citizens program. In the past two years, the bank has worked alongside Military Warriors Support Foundation to donate homes to military families in Michigan and Rhode Island.
