On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, it was announced that a Clifton Park, New York woman had pled guilty to conspiring with others to sell stolen Social Security Numbers over the Internet and to provide a false Social Security Number on a loan application. 33-year-old Kristin M. Kitchen, aka Kristin M. Vargas, pled guilty on Tuesday. As a part of the plea agreement, the defendant admitted to owning an operating a website in 2013 and 2014 with the intention of selling stolen SSNs.

Kitchen advertised the cards as “credit profile numbers”. She encouraged her customers to use the SSNs in place of their own credit and on loan applications. Kitchen also admitted to using one of the stolen Social Security Numbers herself on applications for a loan in 2014. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on May 14, 2018.

At the time of sentencing, she will face a maximum of 30 years in prison and five years of supervised release. The defendant will also face a maximum fine of $250,000. Additional details have been made available here.
