On October the 24th, Intelsat (NYSE: I) announced a new contact with Australia’s Nine Network. The operator of the first of its kind Globalized Network will distribute programming for six of the company’s domestic television stations. Intelsat will also utilize their IntelsatOne terrestrial network to ensure the Nine Network is able to deliver news from around the world to its clients quicker than ever before. Nine Network Australia, which is a subsidiary of Nine Entertainment Co., is one of Australia’s top television networks.
The network is comprised of local stations in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, and Darwin. Intelsat will initially deliver their services with the Australia/New Zealand Ku-Band beam on Intelsat 19. Under the current agreement, Intelsat will provide network support to Nine Network Australia into the upcoming decade. During the past few years, Nine Network Australia has depended on Intelsat occasionally for domestic and international purposes. Just recently, the companies collaborated to allow the Nine Network to provide its viewers with access to the 2016 Olympic Games.
