This month, two companies have submitted WARN notifications with the state of Missouri. On November 2, 2017, Kmart notified state officials that it would be closing its store in Independence. The letter to the Missouri Department of Economic Development confirmed that Kmart Store #04427 will be permanently closing. The store is located at 16200 East US Highway 24 in Independence.

The company claims that a change in business circumstances has led to the decision to close the store. In total, Kmart believes that 62 workers will be permanently laid off, due to the impending closure. The separations are expected to occur on January 21, 2018 or during the 14-day period commencing on that date. None of the workers are represented by a union and therefore will not have bumping rights. The full WARN notification can be found here.

On November 7, 2017, Missouri received a WARN notice from Kindred Hospitals. According to Kindred’s WARN notice, the company will soon be closing its Kansas City hospital. The facility is located at 8701 Troost Avenue in Kansas City. The entire hospital will be closed and all positions will be eliminated.

In total, Kindred believes that the impending closure will result in 115 employees losing their jobs. 24 of the impacted workers are registered nurses, 10 are environmental service aids, and 15 are certified nursing assistants. The full WARN notice can be found here.
