On October 16, 2017, the State of Michigan received a WARN notification from Kmart. The company confirmed that it would soon be shutting down its St. Clair Shores store. The letter suggests that a change in business circumstances has caused Kmart Corporation to permanently close the store located at 22801 Harper Avenue in St Clair Shores, Michigan.

The entire store is set to close permanently and the layoffs will also be permanent. The company anticipates that the employee separations will occur on January 7, 2018 or during the 14-day period after that date. The Kmart Corporation believes that the closure will result in 127 employees losing their jobs.

None of the employees are represented by a union. Therefore, they will no bumping rights. 28 of the impacted workers are checkout service associates, 40 are hardlines merchandisers and 19 are softlines merchandisers.
