This week, the 85-year-old law firm, Sedgwick, announced that it would be shutting down. The law firm established a name for itself by defending insurance companies in lawsuits against companies and policyholders. In January, the company experienced several defections. Three Sedgwick partners departed during that month and took fourteen attorneys with them. The departures continued. Recent merger talks between Clyde & Co. and Sedgwick fell apart.

Now, the law firm has confirmed that it will be shutting down permanently. The State of Missouri received a WARN notification from Sedgwick on November 20, 2017. According to the WARN notice, Sedgwick’s Kansas City office will permanently close on January 20, 2018. The office is located at 2301 McGee Street Suite 500.

Most of the workers will work their last day on January 20, 2018. Sedgwick believes that the closure will lead to the layoff of 75 employees at the Kansas City office. None of the workers are represented by a union. Therefore, they do not have bumping rights. Additional details can be found here.
