The month is off to a bad start for the state of Texas. Hurricane Harvey brought devastation to the state and now several major employers have announced layoffs. On September 1, 2017, Oracle America Inc. submitted a WARN notification with the state. The company announced that 108 workers at its Austin facility would be laid off on October 31, 2017. While the layoffs are significant, the company does not plan to close its site at Riata Park Court.

On September 5, Novitex Enterprise Solutions submitted a WARN notification of their own. Novitex announced that it would be laying off 86 individuals on November 5, 2017. The layoffs will impact workers at the company’s Round Rock facility. The layoffs are attributed to a loss of contract with Dell. Novitex is based out of Stamford, Connecticut. Novitex has confirmed that they would offer transfers to some of the impacted workers that do not have union representation.

Finally, Freeport-McMoRan Oil & Gas submitted a WARN notification to the state of Texas. That notification was received on September 6, 2017. The company’s layoff will impact the city of Houston, with the layoff taking effect on October 31, 2017.
