Earlier this week, ORBCOMM (NASDAQ: ORBC), one of the world’s leading providers of Machine to Machine and IoT solutions, confirmed it had acquired the assets of the Salt Lake City based inthinc Inc. Inthinc specializes in fleet management and driver safety solutions for a wide range of industrial enterprises. The firm’s vehicle telematics solutions are designed with heavy emphasis on enhancing driver safety, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and optimization of the workforce. This is achieved with the implementation of 2-way in-vehicle devices, smart mobile devices, web apps, and data management services.

Inthinc has been a customer of ORBCOMM’s wireless data service for a long period. They currently provide fleet management solutions to more than one hundred enterprises and industrial companies. Simultaneously, inthinc provides solutions that accommodate the growing ELD Mandate regulations imposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The company also works with energy companies. With the acquisition, ORBCOMM plans to expand inthinc’s core telematics services for the transportation and heavy equipment markets.

The majority of inthinc’s customers are based out of the United States. However, they also serve clients in other countries, including Chile, Australia, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania, and elsewhere. Many of the firm’s customers operate in remote areas and support industrial facilities. Additional details about the acquisition can be found here.
