This week, it was announced that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had cited a Birmingham company for exposing workers to fall hazards. Structural Subcontractors Services LLC was cited after an inspection was carried out by OSHA on July 7, 2017. The company now faces proposed penalties of $102,669.

During OSHA’s inspection, compliance safety and health officers discovered that workers were wearing the appropriate fall protection harnesses. However, the harnesses were not tied off to adequately protect from a fall. A willful citation for failing to protect fall hazards was issued. The company also received two serious citations for exposing workers to falls of roughly nine feet and for failing to adequately train employees to recognize fall hazards.

The company now has 15 business days to respond and contest the findings.
