Walgreens’ launched its mental health initiative approximately a year ago. The collaborative effort between Walgreens and Mental Health America has proven to be a major success. Data concluded that approximately 75 percent of visitors that use the online screening program went on to seek follow-up treatment. Simultaneously, a broader demographic of consumers has shown interest in their mental health, thanks to the platform. Walgreens has made it easy for consumers to obtain information about their possible mental health conditions.

Consumers can simply visit the online mental health answer site at www.walgreens.com/mentalhealth to access a handful of free screening tools, which are offered by Mental Health America. Screenings are available for specific mental conditions, including anxiety, PTSD, depression, bipolar, and more. A year after the program’s launch, an analysis has been performed using non-identifiable data to evaluate the program’s effectiveness. Visitors to the online screening tools have shown to be much more likely to seek out assistance.

  • Users are far more likely to seek a referral from someone who can help
  • Visitors are more likely to take a PTSD or anxiety screen
  • The majority of users are older and many are actually caregivers

The analysis also confirmed that nearly 75 percent of visitors subsequently took active steps after completing the screening. More than 30 percent of those individual found treatment, while 1-in-4 eventually discussed their results with loved ones or a healthcare professional. Around 20 percent attempted to acquire additional information. In order to further strengthen the bond between MHA and Walgreens, MHA plans to add Walgreens Pharmacy Chat to their website this summer.

This will allow visitors to the website for Mental Health America to access Walgreens pharmacists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The chat feature provides visitors with secure, 1-on-1 chats with Walgreens pharmacy staff. The chat service will be available at www.mentalhealthamerica.net.
