American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) is an electric utility company based out of Columbus, Ohio. The company is one of the largest generators of electricity in the world. This week, the company submitted a WARN notice with the Ohio Office of Workforce Development.
The letter explains that the Conesville Plant is set to be permanently retired on May 31, 2010. The letter goes on to say that with the doubtful viability of operation and current economics on units 5 and 6, the company does not anticipate the continued operations of these units between now and May 31, 2019.
The letter serves as a warning of a permanent mass layoff at the Conesville Plant. The plant is located at 45701 CR 273 in Conesville, Ohio. The employee separations will most likely occur as early as May 31, 2019. Some of the workers are represented by a union. Some may have bumping rights.
