Avast is widely known for its antivirus software. On July the 19th, the global leader in digital security products announced it had acquired Piriform. Piriform, which is based out of London, is best recognized for the CCleaner software. This software is designed to remove wasteful files from computers and smartphones. Today, the CCleaner software is used by 130 million consumers. This includes approximately 15 million Android users. Simultaneously, the software has helped establish a loyal community of computer-savvy users that need to enhance their device’s speed as quickly as possible.

Avast announced its intention to maintain the CCleaner brand of products, while adding them to their product family. The acquisition will allow Avast to greatly expand its product offerings in both the computer and smartphone optimization marketing. CEO of Avast admitted there were many commonalities associated between Avast and CCleaner. These similarities make both products great for Avast’s user base.

He went on to confirm that the company believes there will be great interest from CCleaner users to take advantage of Avast software and vice versa. After the acquisition has been finalized, the Piriform team will become a part of the Avast consumer business unit. From there, they’ll report to Avast CTO and EVP & GM Consumer, Ondrej Vleck. Recent statistics reveal that a Piriform product is installed roughly 23 million times each month. Additional information can be found here.
