Earlier this week, ecobee Inc. announced the launch of its brand-new smart thermostat, the ecobee4. The next generation smart thermostat has been enhanced with a few notable upgrades, including support for Amazon’s Alexa voice service. The device is also equipped with far-field voice recognition. The new combination makes it possible for consumers to control their home’s comfort and energy usage in the most convenient way possible. Simultaneously, the company announced its intention to launch an innovative voice-enabled smart light switch in hopes of bringing Alexa and far field voice recognition to every room in the consumer’s home.

The launch of the smart light switch will signify the company’s first attempt to break free of the smart thermostat category. ecobee’s smart light switch will be equipped with the capabilities of measuring temperature and occupancy to ensure comfort is delivered to the rooms that matter the most. The ecobee4 now available for pre-order and is expected to hit store shelves on May 15. The light switch should be launched sometime later this year. The company detailed their product plans in correlation with Amazon at the Collision Conference in New Orleans.

The ecobee4 offers more control options than ever before. Thanks to the built-in speaker and microphone, the smart thermostat can be controlled through the touch-screen, a smart device or with simple voice commands. With the Alexa voice service, consumers will be able to use verbal commands to adjust their home’s temperature. The far-field voice recognition feature ensures the ecobee4 will be able to respond to commands spoken from any room in the user’s home. The innovative signature room sensor technology has been incorporated into the new smart thermostat to ensure comfort and energy savings are delivered.

The ecobee4 smart thermostat will be sold online at the ecobee’s official website, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, and BestBuy. The thermostat will arrive with a wireless room sensor and support for up to 32 additional sensors. The device is expected to retail at $249. Upon release, the ecobee4 will be compatible with Amazon’s Echo, the Apple HomeKit, IFTTT and Samsung SmartThings. Those interested in learning more should click here.
