On April the 26th, Firefly Wireless Networks, which is a leading producer of Visible Light Communications and LiFi products, announced the unveiling of their 2nd Gen VLC products at the Hannover Messe Technology tradeshow. The company has been pouring efforts into the development of their second generation SecureLink LiFi access points and client units. To date, these are the most advanced VLC products, as well as the fastest. The SecureLink LiFi points are capable of reaching maximum speeds of 1.8 Gbps. LiFi depends on light to transmit data with increased security and speed.

With LiFi, it is also possible to eliminate common WiFi problems, such as RF interferences and congestion issues. The venture capital backed manufacturer has also worked diligently to develop new relationship with other industry sectors, including factory automation, building technology providers, and even consumer electronics. The company sincerely believes their Visible Light Communications solutions will become the newest trend in data communications technology citing the advantage of the utilization of light compared to the radio frequency spectrum.

The company’s CEO, Dr. Heinz Willebrand, points out that RF spectrum can be susceptible to interference, congestion and even eavesdropping. These are all problems Firefly Wireless Networks have attempted to stamp out with their 2nd generation VLC products. Additional details can be found here.
