On Tuesday, it was announced that a former corporate officer of a produce vender in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin pleaded guilty to tax evasion. 63-year-old Thomas G. Paine pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Informative provided to the court showed that Paine served as the Vice President and Treasurer of G.W. Paine Inc. The company sold fresh fruit and other produce under the business name Tree Ripe Citrus Company. The defendant was responsible for the finance and tax aspects of the business. However, he failed to file corporate tax returns for the tax years 2010 through 2012.
Paine also concealed the business’ income from the Internal Revenue Service. Paine ultimately confessed to causing a tax loss between $250,000 and $550,000. Paine is now scheduled to be sentenced on May 8, 2018. At the time of sentencing, Paine will face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison.
