This week, it was announced that a convicted child pornography offender has been sentenced to prison. 47-year-old Christopher Eklund was sentenced to 96 months in prison and seven years of supervised released. The former English language teacher in China pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography on November 2, 2018.
Admissions made in connection with the guilty plea show that Eklund advertised and shared thousands of images of child porn between roughly December 2014 and July 2015. The pornography was discovered during an undercover investigation into the distribution of child porn over an Internet file-sharing network.
Eklund also used the network to write sexualized blog posts discussing his like of child pornography. FBI agents reviewed the postings and downloaded several child pornography files that Eklund had shared over the network. The FBI discovered that Eklund was a United States citizen living in Wuhan, China.
The FBI passed the information to Chinese authorities. In October of 2016, Chinese authorities charged and convicted Eklund of child pornography offenses. He was released from a Chinese prison and deported to the United States for prosecution in May of 2018. Further details have been made available here.
