On Wednesday, United States District Judge Susan C. Bucklew sentenced a former assisted living facility worker to prison for tax refund fraud. Willie L. Lee of Florida was sentenced to two years in federal prison for aggravated identity theft. Lee has also been ordered to pay $32,933 in restitution. The defendant pleaded guilty on May 17, 2017.
Documents in the case revealed that Lee was employed at an Assisted Living Facility during 2012 and 2013. During that time, he conspired with another individual to steal personal information from patients and deceased individuals. That information was eventually utilized to file fraudulent income tax returns.
The returns were electronically deposited into an account that Lee had opened. The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Unit was responsible for investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jay L. Hoffer was the prosecutor in the case.
