On Monday, September 11, 2017, U.S. Attorney Tom Beall announced that a former restaurant owner in Lenexa, Kansas had been sentenced to prison for bank fraud. 56-year-old Charles R. Waits was sentenced to three years on supervised release for his involvement in the bank fraud. He has also been ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution within 90 days.
Waits initially pleaded guilty to a single count of bank fraud. As a part of the guilty plea, Waits admitted that he was one of the owners of the Kansas City Sports Grille at the time of the crime. The restaurant has since been closed.
Waits pleaded guilty to giving the Community America Credit Union false financial information when applying for a loan. The defendant listed assets that he did not own. He significant overvalued another property that he did own. Again, 56-year-old Charles R. Waits has been sentenced to three years of supervised release.
