This week, it was announced that two former Teamsters union officials had pleaded guilty to Embezzlement and Theft from a Labor Union and Wire Fraud. 56-year-old Scott Alexander and 52-year-old Nancy Alexander of Belleville, Illinois pled guilty to the charges. The defendants are now scheduled to be sentenced on August 24, 2018. At that time, they’ll face a maximum possible sentence of 25 years in jail and a fine of up to $500,000.
As a part of the plea. The defendants admitted that between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2016 they embezzled and converted Union funds by using the Union’s credit card to make personal purchases, manipulating the payroll withholdings, receiving more vacation pay than earned, receiving a salary while on vacation, and receiving additional auto allowance payments.
During this time, Scott Alexander was the President and Business Agent of the union Local 50 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. His wife Nancy was the local’s office administrator. Additional details have been made available here.
