On April 11, 2019, Georgia-Pacific Wood Products LLC submitted a WARN notice with the Oregon Office of Workforce Investments. The letter explains that the company will be permanently closing its Coos Bay, Oregon facility. The facility is located at 63779 Mullen Street. The closure is promoted by evaluations which concluded that operating the facility was no longer competitive due to market conditions and unreliable rail service.
The company expects the action to result in 111 employees being laid off from their positions. 13 salaried and 98 hourly positions will be eliminated. The company anticipates that it will begin eliminating positions around June 10, 2019. The position eliminations will continue until the closure is fully completed.
Some of the workers are represented by a union. Salaried employees will not have access to bumping rights. Union employees have bumping rights under the terms of their labor agreement. The full WARN notice can be found here.
