Google: Featured Snippet, No longer repeat it in the First Page of Results

Google announced via Twitter that from today If a web page listing is elevated into the featured snippet position, they no longer repeat the same results in the first page. Google will focus in declutters the results & helps users locate relevant information more easily. Google SearchLiaison also mentioned that featured snippets count as one of the ten web page listings they shows.

This google update was launched yesterday 100% globally. Maybe for SEOs this is somewhat alarming, given the frequent changes that the giant has made, however the company said that there’s no change to the overall set of web results. There are still ten unique listings, as before. Deduplicating simply means we’re no longer showing any of those unique listings twice.

For video featured snippets the deduplication does not going to happen. It does for a featured snippet-variant that may resemble a Knowledge Panel on desktop, to the right side of results. Google said they will likely stop later this week and resume when those move inline with main results.

The deduplication does not going to happen with other features, such as Top Stories or Interesting Finds. Deduplication also only happens for the exact URL in the featured snippet and only within the first page of results.
