Illinois Sees 1,200 Layoffs During The Month Of August

During the month of August, the State of Illinois was impacted by massive layoffs from several big companies. Aptim Services LLC announced that it would be laying off at several locations throughout the state, after losing a contract. Aptim notified Illinois officials that 63 workers would be laid off at the company’s Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station. The WARN notification was submitted on August the 11th and the first layoffs were initiated on August 17, 2017.

Aptim also laid off 150 additional workers at its Quad Cities Nuclear Generating Station. Those layoffs were initiated on August 23, 2017. Aptim laid off an additional 65 at the Byron Nuclear Generating Station and 87 at the LaSalle County Nuclear Generating Station. At the company’s Dresden Nuclear Generating Station, 63 workers were permanently laid off. Finally, Aptim Services permanently laid off 46 workers at its Clinton Power Station.

Aptim wasn’t the only company to layoff in the state of Illinois. The Hard Rock Hotel Chicago announced that it would be permanently closing its hotel at 230 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Illinois officials received the WARN notification on August 30, 2017. The layoffs are expected to begin on October 17, 2017. In total 184 workers will be impacted by the hotel’s closure.

On August 29, 2017, Illinois received a WARN notification from Comcast. The company will be closing down its facility at 2001 York Road in Oak Brook, Illinois. In total, Comcast’s layoffs will impact 211 workers. Those layoffs are expected to begin on October 30, 2017. Comcast did not provide a reason for the layoffs.

Finally, Jet Aviation St. Louis Inc. submitted a WARN notification with that state of Illinois on August 3, 2017. According to the WARN notice, the company will be permanently closing its facility at 6400 Curtiss-Steinburg Drive in Cahokia. The closure will lead to the permanent layoff of 347 workers. The company cited weakened demand as cause for the layoffs.

During the month of August, Illinois sustained a total of 1,216 layoffs according to WARN notifications.
