This week, Post Acute Medical submitted a WARN notice with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The letter was received on March 7, 2019. Under the terms of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 employers are required to give official notice of a pending plant closing or mass layoff.
According to the letter, Post Acute Specialty Hospital of Milwaukee LLC has decided to permanently close its Greenfield, Wisconsin facility. The hospital is located at 5017 South 110th Street in Greenfield. The closure is primary caused by dramatic changes designed to substantially limit the type of patients who could be treated in long-term acute care hospitals.
The letter explains that the hospital will be closing on or around April 30, 2019. All employees will be permanently laid off. In total, it is estimated that 172 employees will lose their jobs. Of those workers, 114 work in clinical services. The workers are not represented by a union. They will not have access to bumping rights.
The company claims that the draconian changes imposed on long-term acute care hospitals make it impossible for the hospital to continue operating. The full WARN notice can be found here.
