On September 27, 2017, Ryder submitted a WARN notification to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The company notified the Department that it would soon be carrying out a massive layoff in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The permanent layoff is expected to be effective on November 22, 2017. In total, it will impact 361 workers at the 100 Saturn Parkway facility.
The impacted employees are represented by a collective bargaining agreement. Earlier this month, General Motors also announced layoffs in Maury County, Tennessee. General Motors notified the Department of Labor and Workforce Development that it would be laying off 680 workers on November 27, 2017. Ryder did not give a reason for the layoff.
