Earlier this month, Siemens submitted a WARN notification with the Ohio Office of Workforce Development. The letter explains that the Siemens Aero-Derivative Gas Turbine facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio will transfer all activities to other Siemens facilities around the globe. The company cites the conditions of the global energy market as the reason for the facility’s closure. The facility is located at 105 North Sandusky Street.
Workforce reductions at the Mount Vernon campus will begin on September 28, 2018. The layoffs will continue in phases with additional reductions being planned for December of 2018, spring 2019 and fall 2019. Some of the workers are represented by the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 90. Those workers will have access to bumping rights.
The company anticipates that roughly 134 workers will be permanently separated from their employment in September. The full WARN notification has been made available here.
