State Of Illinois Receives Notice Of 1,300 Job Losses During Month Of November

During the month of November, Illinois received WARN notifications from several big companies, including Aspen Foods, Lord & Taylor, Maurice Sporting Goods, and Martin’s IGA. In total, these companies announced the impending lay off of roughly 1,360 individuals. Aspen Foods filed a WARN notification with Illinois on November 11, 2017. The company announced it would be laying off 199 workers at its Chicago facility. The plant will be permanently closed. A reason was not provided.

New Media News LLC submitted a WARN notice on November the 3rd. The company announced it would be closing its Chicago operations permanently. In total, New Media News will be laying off 40 workers. Wagner Systems Inc. filed its WARN notice on November 9, 2017. The company is closing its Elgin, Illinois facility and relocating. In total, 27 workers will be impacted by the move.

Maurice Sporting Goods submitted a WARN notice on November 28, 2017. The company announced that it would be laying off 104 workers as a result of a bankruptcy. The sporting and recreational goods and supplies merchant wholesaler anticipates the layoffs to be permanent. Honeywell announced a temporary layoff on November 27, 2017.

The company cites weakened demand as a reason for laying off 170 workers. Meda Pharmaceuticals announced it would be permanently closing its Decatur facility. The consolidation will lead to 80 workers being laid off with the layoffs being finished on June 29, 2018. Again, Illinois received WARN notifications totaling to more than 1,300 job losses during the month of November.
