The co-owners of a Chicago area home health agency have pleaded guilty to their roles in a scheme to acquire millions of dollars in Medicare reimbursements by paying kickbacks for patient referrals. The husband and wife duo lived in Streamwood, Illinois.
52-year-old Carmencita Agno and 54-year-old Emmanuel Agno each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to offer and pay kickbacks. The defendants are now scheduled to be sentenced on September 19, 2019. As a part of the guilty pleas, the defendants admitted to causing Renaissance Home Health Services Inc. of making concealed kickback payments to patient marketers and other sources of Medicare patient referrals.
As a result of their behavior, Renaissance improperly acquired roughly $1.6 million in profits. They also admitted to causing Axis Healthcare Services Inc. of making approximately $365,000 in illegal kickback payments to 49-year-old Maristel Canete. Further details can be found here.
