Sykes Announces Facility Closure And Layoffs In Eugene, Oregon

Sykes Enterprises is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Tampa. The company provides outsourcing of technical support and customer services. In 2016, it was estimated that Sykes employed roughly 54,550 individuals. On August 30, 2017, Sykes submitted a WARN notification to the State of Oregon. That Notification was received on September 8, 2017.

According to the notification, Sykes will soon be shutting down its facility located at 190 West 8th Avenue in Eugene, Oregon. The closure is expected to be completed on October 31, 2017. The mass majority of layoffs will impact customer service agents. In the WARN notification, Sykes warned Oregon officials that the site was closing and therefore employees would be unable to use their seniority to bump other employees from their positions.

Simultaneously, the impacted employees are not represented by a union. According to the letter sent from Sykes’ Global Vice President, Wendi Summers, to Eugene site employees, a careful review led to business changes that will ultimately result in the closure of the Eugene center.

In total, it is anticipated that 181 employees will be impacted by the facility closure. The closure and layoffs will most likely be permanent.
