On Wednesday, it was announced that a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Michigan had returned an indictment against the owner of a tax return preparation business. Gary Hairston has been charged with 26 counts of preparing fraudulent tax returns. The defendant owned and operated Gary Y Hairston & Co PLLC. The tax return preparation business was located in Inkster, Michigan.
The indictment alleges that Hairston supposedly filed fraudulent returns with the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of clients from 2010 through 2014. The indictment claims that Hairston reported fake businesses and claimed false earning income tax credits on clients’ tax returns. The returns sought refunds that the clients were not entitled.
In the event that Hairston is convicted, he will face a maximum sentence of three years in prison on each count. At this point in time, the defendant remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
