Texas Canned Food Company Cited By U.S. Department of Labor After Employee Suffers Amputation

The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced that it had cited Bruce Foods Corporation after an employee suffered an amputation. The Mexican food manufacturer is based out of El Paso, Texas.

The company is facing fines of $194,350. The company was cited for 24 serious safety violations, including lack of fall protection, failing to train employees in lockout/tagout procedures, exposing employees to live electrical parts, and inadequate machine guarding.

Bruce Foods has 15 days from the receipt of the citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference or contest the findings. Further details can be found here.
