On May 21, 2019, Union Pacific submitted a WARN notice with the Oregon Office of Workforce Investments. The letter explains that the company has been accelerating its continuous improvement plan and implementing Precision Scheduled Railroad principles in hopes of providing for Union Pacific’s long-term success.
In accordance with the company’s Unified Plan 2020 program, it will undertake operational changes across its system. This could lead to employees being laid off at the company’s Hinkle Yard and its Supply Warehouse and Mechanical Locomotive Shop. The Hinkle Yard is located at 77855 Hermiston-Hinkle Road in Hermiston, Oregon.
All operations will cease at the Supply Warehouse and Mechanical Locomotive Shop. Operations will continue at Hinkle Yard with some layoffs taking place. In total, the company concludes that as many 195 positions will be eliminated. The full WARN notice can be found here.
