Earlier this month, United States Steel Corporation submitted a WARN notice with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The letter explains that the company will soon be laying off workers as a result of indefinite idling of operations at its East Chicago Tin facility. That facility is located at 101 East 129th Street in East Chicago, Indiana.
The idling is due to the consolidation of the company’s tin mill productions following extensive market analysis. The idling is not expected to be permanent but will be of an indefinite duration. The employment losses are expected to begin on November 9, 2019 and continue through the end of December.
The company believes that the total number of employees impacted will be less than 150 but exact numbers are not available at this time. The full WARN notice can be found here.
