On February the 6th, Verity Health System made it aware that their system was accessed by an unauthorized thirty party. The company stresses the fact that there has been no evidence of patient information being used in an unauthorized fashion. Nonetheless, the information, which dates from 2010 and 2014, contains patient names, dates of birth, addresses, emails, phone numbers, medical record numbers, and the last 4 digits of the patient’s credit card. Patients can maintain a little peace of mind knowing that the information does not include full credit card details or social security numbers.

Verity Health became aware of the potential security breach on January the 6th. At this time, it was confirmed that an unauthorized 3rd party accessed the company’s Verity Medical Foundation San Jose Medical Group website. While the website is no longer in use, it was still determined that the unauthorized access happened sometime between October 2015 and January 2017. Upon detecting the breach, the company took immediate action to secure the website, prevent further access and to stop similar incidents from happening in the future.

The company has already started to notify those that have been impacted by the breach, as is required by law. The company has also set up a call center for consumers that have questions. More importantly, Verity is offering credit monitoring services for free for an entire year. To learn more about Verity, be sure to visit their website at www.verity.org.
