This week, LabCorp (NYSE: LH) and Walgreens announced a new collaboration to develop and operate patient service centers at select Walgreens stores. The centers, which will be referred to as LabCorp at Walgreens, are designed to provide patients with a secure, comfortable environment for specimen collection purposes. The new patient services will be located near the pharmacy section of the select Walgreens stores. In 2017, Walgreens will incorporate LabCorp at Walgreens centers at seven of their stores. Five patient service centers in Denver and one in North Carolina are expected to open sometime later this summer.
By the end of the year, Walgreens will add a center to their Deerfield, Illinois facility. The collaboration was initiated in an attempt to provide patients with a broad spectrum of health care services at a convenient and trusted setting. Patients will be able to check-in for the lab testing at the Walgreens pharmacy. Both companies have agreed to explore additional ways to work together to enhance patient care.
Walgreens believes lab testing is the perfect complement to the services currently offered through their pharmacies and Healthcare Clinics. The company admits the move follows their mission to accommodate the needs of patients and to deliver greater access to affordable health care services. Simultaneously, LabCorp believes the initiative strengthens their ability to deliver the best customer experience, while providing high-quality, affordable laboratory testing to consumers.
The new Walgreens sites will add to LabCorp’s nearly 1,750 patient service centers. The company offers more than 4,800 tests to consumers. The specimens collected at Walgreens stores will be tested at primary and specialty laboratories that are a part of LabCorp’s nationwide network. More details can be found here.
