This week, Walgreens announced it was transitioning its Tempe pharmacy operations support center to a new facility in the city of Chandler. The move will relocate 300 jobs to the new facility, while subsequently creating 191 new jobs for Arizonians. The company confirmed that its Tempe facility will remain open and will serve as a pharmacy mail service support facility to enable future growth. The new 60,000 square foot pharmacy operation center is located on 2225 South Price Road in Chandler.
Many new positions will be filled at the Chandler facility. New hires will include pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and call center agents. Walgreens expects the Chandler facility to be fully operational by fall of 2017. Walgreens’ vice president of pharmacy and retail operations planning, Rex Swords, believes the facility will support Walgreens pharmacies around the world and allow the company’s staff to spend more time aiding patients.
“The new facility will support Walgreens retail pharmacies around the country by performing tasks that allow pharmacy staff in stores to spend more time providing trusted service to patients.”
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey sees the move as a plus for his state. “The health care industry is a key part of Arizona’s diversified economy, and Walgreens decision to grow its operations in our state will significantly contribute to the strength of that industry. This project will not only create hundreds of new, high-value job opportunities in the East Valley, but will also provide excellent pharmaceutical services for our citizens.”
