This week, the Knox News Sentinel reported that Weigel’s would soon be expanding to the Tri-Cities. The convenience store chain, which was founded in 1931, is based out of Powell, Tennessee. With 66 stores in the Knoxville area, Weigel’s has finally decided to spread its wings and branch out to the Tri Cities.
The expansion will begin in 2018 with the grand opening of a new store in Kingsport. 8 to 10 stores will subsequently open throughout the area. CEO and chairman of Weigel’s, Bill Weigel, said that each store will create 25 jobs. Each new store will feature self-service kiosks to allow customers to place their order, receive a ticket and pick up their food moments later.
Each store is expected to be 5,300 square-foot in size. The company also wants consumers to know that nothing in the store will be frozen before it is cooked. Weigel’s expects the menu to continue to grow into the future.
