Earlier this week, the Broward Wellness Center in Broward County, Florida opened its doors for the first time. The clinic, which is a cooperative effort between the Florida Department of Health in Broward County and the AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation), held its ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, July the 27th. The facility is located at 750 Southeast 3rd Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It will offer free STD and HIV testing and screening for all local residents. Floridians can receive free testing at any time, as no appointment is needed. Testing, which is completely free, will be made available Monday through Friday from 10AM to 7PM.
Dr. Paula Thaqi, who is Director of the Florida Department of Health in Broward County, encourages all members of the community to visit the clinic regularly. “We encourage our community to make HIV and STD testing a part of regular medical checkups. The Broward Wellness Center, a partnership between The Florida Department of Health in Broward County and AIDS Healthcare Foundation, will provide even greater access to sexual health services on a walk in basis at no cost.”
A variety of testing and screen services are available.
- Chlamydia screening and treatment
- Gonorrhea screening and treatment
- HIV testing and linkage to HIV primary care
- Syphilis screening and treatment
During its 5 year tenure, the Broward Wellness Center has provided services to more than 100,000 patients. The facility officially opened in April of 2013. The Wellness Center has disease intervention specialists from the DOH-Broward that work directly with the providers to ensure consumers receive the highest quality services possible.
Besides the new Broward County location, AHF currently operates 21 Wellness Centers across 8 states, including Ohio, California, Washington DC, and Texas. More details can be found here. Just a few days ago, the AHF held a grand opening for a new Orlando healthcare center at 1701 North Mills Avenue in Orlando, Florida.
