On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, it was announced tat 43-year-old Rebecca Block of Windsor had been sentenced to 12 months and one day imprisonment. The defendant was sentenced for embezzling roughly $190,000 from her former employer and failing to pay federal income taxes on the embezzled money. Court documents and statements made in court explain that Block was employed by PG Life Planning Associates Inc. in West Hartford.
Between 2010 and 2013, the defendant stole from the company by issuing more than 200 checks made payable to herself. She deposited those checks into her personal bank account. Block attempted to conceal the embezzlement from her employer by disguising the payments in internal accounting records as legitimate business expenses.
Over the course of roughly four years, Block embezzled approximately $190,399. Block failed to report $42,004 in income taxes on her 2010 through 2013 federal tax returns. The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return on February 20, 2018. Block has been ordered to report to prison on August 15, 2018.
