Earlier this year, Xfinity announced it was teaming up with Verizon to launch its very own mobile service. The cable, Internet and landline provider will leverage Verizon’s Wireless network to provide Comcast’s customers with access to affordable, reliable mobile phone services. The Xfinity Mobile service uses a combination of Comcast’s 17 million plus Wi-Fi hotspots across the nation and Verizon’s wireless network. When users enter an area covered by one of Comcast’s Wi-Fi hotspots, their phone will automatically connect via that method. Consumers have the option of turning off the Wi-Fi if they are in a location where cellular could be faster and more reliable.
This week, Xfinity stepped up their efforts to grab a portion of the mobile market. On July the 24th, the company put out two press releases detailing the expansion of their Xfinity Mobile services. First and foremost, the company’s wireless service is now available at 8 stores throughout the Twin Cities area. The service was first made available to Xfinity Internet customers in all service areas on May the 17th. Now, many Minnesota residents will be able to check out the mobile service by visiting their nearest Xfinity store. The company is in the process of rolling out the service market-by-market, until all 300 plus retail locations are covered.
Also, Comcast launched the Xfinity Mobile service at their retail store in Independence, Missouri. Xfinity Mobile is available to all Xfinity Internet customers and is designed to be cost effective. Users can receive up to five lines, as well as unlimited talk and text. There are no line access fees. Everyone that signs up for Xfinity Mobile will receive 100 MB of shared data across all lines on a single account. Two data options are available, so consumers will only need to pay for what they use.
First, consumers can sign up for a completely unlimited plan for $45 per line. A maximum of five lines are available. Alternatively, the customer can choose the “By the Gig” plan. With this plan, the customer will pay $12 per GB of data across all lines each month. Customers can easily switch from one plan to the other by utilizing the Xfinity Mobile app. Changes can be made at any time during the user’s billing cycle with no additional fee.
Simultaneously, families can mix-and-match on a single account to ensure everyone’s needs are best accommodated. The Xfinity Mobile service offers access to the latest mobile devices, including Apple’s iPhone 7 and the iPhone Plus. Customers can also choose the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ or the S7.
